Voter turnout in the City of Falls Church eclipsed the 2008 numbers bringing out 87 percent of the registered voters.
For months John Lawrence has canvassed Northern Virginia for President Barack Obama’s grassroots campaign knocking on doors and making phone calls. Tuesday night, Lawrence, a Falls Church City Public Schools board member, celebrated Obama’s re-election with other area Democrats at a watch party at Mad Fox Brewing Company. “This means we can keep on the upward path President Obama has us on,” Lawrence said. “I think what he is going to do is focus on foreign policy in this term.” Local Democrats were excited to hear that City of Falls Church voters turned out to the polls in record breaking numbers. In 2008, 82.8 percent of the city’s registered voters went to the polls. This year, a little more than 87 percent of the city’s registered …

Ken Feltman said Gov. Romney has to avoid clumsy comments to win final debate.
With the last of the three debates between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney scheduled for Monday night, the chair of the Falls Church City Republican Committee said the GOP candidate has to look presidential. Ken Feltman said in order for Romney to win over some of the undecided voters, he has to avoid clumsy comments — especially about women. It’s the president who should feel the pressure to throw a knock out punch in the final debate, Feltman said. “In the first debate, Romney took advantage of the president's off night to show that he could handle the burden of the presidency,” Feltman said. “He erased the negative image many voters had, based on anti-Romney advertising from the Obama campaign and groups supporting Obama. He…

Who won the debate? Republicans say Romney did; Democrats said Obama did.
While presidential candidates Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney went head to head in their first debate, Falls Church residents rendered different views of their how things went. Ken Feltman, chair of the Falls Church City Republican Committee, said Romney showed a presidential side for the first time during his campaign. He said it was a side Republican voters have been waiting to see. “I have a hunch people are going to be happy with this,” Feltman said. “Obama had an off night and he left a lot of things he could have used on the table.” Democratic supporters, including Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11) and Lilly Ledbetter, the driving force behind the Fair Pay Act, gathered at the Obama campaign office in Falls Church to watch the debate. …

Groups assure public they both agree schools need technology upgrade.
The passionate debate was absent but the fact still remains Falls Church City Public Schools don’t have the $500,000 needed to upgrade the school’s technology. City council and FCCPS School Board officials agreed Thursday night that there is a need to upgrade the school’s technology. The question is what’s the best way to get the money? “I have not met one person on city council that wants to cut funding for technology in the schools,” said Greg Rasnake, a member of the school board. “It’s just a debate on how and when to do it.” Council failed to reach a majority vote on two proposals Monday that would have given the schools and the city portions of a surplus of more than $2.8 million. Instead, the money will go into the city’s fund …

Ken Feltman said Mitt Romney’s pick of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan should shore up the Republican base this year.
Ken Feltman wasn’t surprised Saturday morning about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s selection of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate. Feltman, chair of the Falls Church City Republican Committee, said he found a website that lets you track the private planes belonging to candidates and saw Romney’s plane land in Wisconsin Friday night. Paul is engaging and people gravitate to him, Feltman said. “I said to my wife, ‘Maybe Romney is looking at the polls and he thought this would shore up the Republican base’,” Feltman said. “Paul meets people very well. People like him when they meet him and older people think he’s a nice young man.” Romney announced the Wisconsin congressman as his running mate Saturday at a rally …

I would agree with this analysis. Obama's problem is that he has not been able to get to the 50% level nationally and, now, in critical battleground states like Virginia and Ohio. This is near certain death for an incumbent as late-breaking voters tilt heavily in favor of the challenger, especially one as clearly qualified for the job as Romney (even if you disagree with his policies, you can't …   more ›
