Interim director has strong connections to the Falls Church community.
Needing someone to step in to lead, the Falls Church Education Foundation picked Debbie Shantz-Hiscott to serve as their interim director. Hiscott, who replaces former director Donna Englander, is well known within the City of Falls Church having served as both president of the Falls Church Elementary School PTA and vice president of the Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School PTA. "I am excited to build upon the successes of the Falls Church Education Foundation and to combine my professional and community experience to benefit the stellar schools in the City of Falls Church,” Hiscott said in a written statement. “We have a strong volunteer community interested in keeping our public school system one of the best in the country. Race raises money for Falls Church Education Foundation to support school programs.
The Falls Church Education Foundation is ready for their seventh annual Run for the Schools 5K Race and 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk on Sept. 16. Donna Englander, executive director, said the foundation is expecting 500 runners, 100 more than last year. She said the foundation is accepting early bird registration through Aug. 10. Participants can take part in the 5K run or the one-mile family fun run/walk. “People can run as an individual or as a team as long as they have four people,” Englander said. The race raises money to support school programs supported by the foundation including the SIRSTS Lego League. The event will be part of the Fall Festival Weekend in Cherry Hill Park in the City of Falls Church. Englander said several community…

Gala looks to raise $120,000 this year.
The two women met in July but over the last several months Gabi Sandoz and Donna Englander have developed a working relationship that would take years for some to build. Sandoz, this year’s chair of the Falls Church Education Foundation’s 2012 Spring Gala and Auction said she is excited to help plan the event. New to Falls Church, Sandoz chaired a similar gala for an Alexandria school last year. “Her energy fuels my intensity and we get a lot done,” said Englander, executive director of the FCEF. “She has brought a lot of great ideas.” The FCEF will host their eighth annual gala and auction on May 12 in the Venerable International Hall of Flags in the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.
