The median income of City of Falls Church residents puts the city above Fairfax County in the list of the 10 wealthiest areas in the United States.
With a median household income of more than $117,000, the City of Falls Church is one of the wealthiest municipalities in the United States, according to a new report from Forbes. That places Falls Church second on its list of the 10 richest cities or counties in the United States—above surrounding Fairfax County, which places fourth. The list is from Census median household income numbers compiled by the U. S. Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates from 2011, the most recent year for which is available. The wealthiest county in the United States is Virginia's own Loudoun County, with a median income of close to $120,000. Three local restaurants were inspected recently—here are the restaurant health inspection reports provided by the Virginia Department of Health.
In Virginia, restaurant inspection reports are not quite as simple as getting a letter grade or an easy-to-see number rating to post in the front window. With that said, we all want to know how our favorite restaurants stack up on cleanliness and sanitation. A "critical violation" is one that "poses a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served." Non-critical violations are generally related to cleaning or maintenance. "Ideally, an operation would have no critical violations, or none which are not corrected immediately and not repeated. In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations," according to the Virginia Department of Health's website…

Annandale man turns himself into Falls Church City Police for one crime, arrested for another.
It was a great week weather wise, minus the pollen count and allergies getting the best of people. The week got greater when Best Buddies took the field against the George Mason High softball team in a monumental game. By the way, Best Buddies won! There were more smiles this week especially when City Council adopted their budget and in the process, fully funded the Falls Church City Public Schools request for their budget. Already there have been more bike thefts in the city than last year and police are urging people to register their bicycles with the city to help retrieve their property if it’s stolen. An Annandale man picked up more charges when he turned himself into Falls Church City Police on grand larceny charges and still had …

Best Buddies chapter president wanted to show school, community that people with disabilities are no different from anyone else.
There were no differences between anyone Thursday afternoon when the George Mason High School varsity softball team played against the school's Best Buddies chapter. There were no fans and no announcers. It was just a chance for kids to be kids and play. Maeve Curtin, president of the Mason chapter of Best Buddies, said she planned the event to show everyone that people with disabilities were no different from anyone else. “The students who are disabled are marginalized,” said Curtin, a junior at the school. “I wanted to do something like this instead of watching a movie inside.” Curtin said she and varsity softball Head Coach Brian Fowler worked together to organize the game. Mason softball players matched up against a team of Best …
