WEEK IN REVIEW: Holidays in Full Swing

Falls Church businesses are already in the holiday spirit.

With Thanksgiving just a couple days away, the holidays are here and the Merrifield Garden Center kicked off the shopping season. The three stores in the chain held a “Ladies Night” holiday shopping event last week where they served food, wine and had music just right for the season. Everyone knows the holiday season means good food and great times with family and friends. Natalia’s Elegant Creations is handling cakes, pies and lots of cookies for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Myself, I will be in the kitchen cooking up some dinner dishes and desserts for this week. Hello everyone and welcome to Andre Taylor's Tasty Tidbits! Today, I'm going to share my momma's recipe for some good old fashioned, yummy, back road down south collard greens! The mere mention of my momma's greens are enough to make my mouth water and rush me up Interstate-95 to Philadelphia to stand in line for a plate or two, or three or four. Ladies Night Kicks Off Holiday Season at Garden Center

Merrifield Garden Center will host third annual “Ladies Night” this week at all three locations, the start of planned events for the holidays.

There will be wine tastings, appetizers and music for the third annual Merrifield Garden Center’s “Ladies Night,” but the main objective is to kick off the holiday shopping season. From 6 p.m. through 9 p.m. Thursday, women can shop the center’s ornaments, trees and other holiday items. Kevin Warhurst, a manager at the center, said the event will go on simultaneously at their Falls Church, Fair Oaks and Gainesville stores. “It’s been well received and attended,” Warhurst said Monday. “”It’s kind of a fun night. “ The Falls Church store is stocked with bows, ribbons and other must have decorations for the holiday season.
