Virginia Supreme Court reversed the order against Jane Perez of Falls Church on Friday; ACLU notes 'importance of free speech.'
The Virginia Supreme Court reversed a preliminary injunction that stopped a Falls Church woman from accusing a contractor of stealing jewelry from her home on a popular consumer website. Friday, the Commonwealth’s high court reversed the injunction ordered by Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Fortkort in December that forced Jane Perez to take down some of her comments on Yelp.com about Christopher Dietz. Falls Church dealt with death of a local college student who was a JEB Stuart High alum.
President Barack Obama made his way to Falls Church last week to meet with a family to discuss how the “fiscal cliff” would affect them. The president also filmed the meeting to serve in part of his efforts to sway public opinion and pressure Congress to come to a resolution. The Falls Church and JEB Stuart High communities were devastated to learn of the death of University of Virginia senior Casey Schulman. Schulman was killed in a snorkeling accident while participating in the Semester at Sea program. For a second time this year, a sewage leak canceled classes at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. Falls Church City Public Schools officials said the two leaks were not connected and they will keep a close check on the sewage system …

While a defamation suit is settled, Jane Perez has been barred from accusing contractor Christopher Dietz of stealing jewelry and causing more than $15,000 in damages to her home.
A Falls Church woman was ordered yesterday to delete parts of her post on the customer-driven website Yelp.com while a court weighs a $1 million defamation suit against the woman. Jane Perez, according to the New York Post, wrote angry reviews on Yelp and Angie’s List alleging contractor Christopher Dietz stole jewelry from her home and caused about $15,000 in damages to her home. Dietz filed the suit against Perez in October, according to the newspaper. Fairfax County Judge Thomas Fortkort barred Perez from accusing Dietz of stealing in her posts because police reportedly investigated the allegations and did not to bring charges against Dietz.
