Santa will be at Merrifield Garden Center through Dec. 23.
With Christmas about a week away, dozens of children and parents made their way Tuesday night to the Merrifield Garden Center in Falls Church to tell Santa Claus what they wanted. One by one children climbed onto Santa’s lap and read their wish list for Christmas. As the children read their lists, parents snapped pictures and a few even took the opportunity for family portraits. Santa will be at the Winter Wonderland through Dec. 23. Falls Church businesses are already in the holiday spirit.
With Thanksgiving just a couple days away, the holidays are here and the Merrifield Garden Center kicked off the shopping season. The three stores in the chain held a “Ladies Night” holiday shopping event last week where they served food, wine and had music just right for the season. Everyone knows the holiday season means good food and great times with family and friends. Natalia’s Elegant Creations is handling cakes, pies and lots of cookies for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Myself, I will be in the kitchen cooking up some dinner dishes and desserts for this week. Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department will donate a vehicle to another volunteer department in New York affected by Super Storm Sandy.
1- City Council will hold a work session at 7:30 p.m. in the Dogwood Room inside City Hall. 2- The Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department is donating its 2002 Freightliner/Medic Master reserve ambulance to the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department in Island Park, N.Y. so that they can continue to serve the public by providing basic emergency medical services. Holiday shopping events in Falls Church are underway.
All three Merrifield Garden Center locations will host “Ladies Night,” from 6 p.m. through 9 p.m. to kickoff the holiday shopping season Thursday night. Free wine and food will be served. The Recreation and Parks Department for the City of Falls Church will hold their annual Holiday Craft Show on Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. and Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Falls Church Community Center. The city’s Human Services Advisory Council will meet tonight at City Hall at 6:45 p.m. The Board of Zoning Appeals meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in City Hall has been canceled. Merrifield Garden Center will host third annual “Ladies Night” this week at all three locations, the start of planned events for the holidays.
There will be wine tastings, appetizers and music for the third annual Merrifield Garden Center’s “Ladies Night,” but the main objective is to kick off the holiday shopping season. From 6 p.m. through 9 p.m. Thursday, women can shop the center’s ornaments, trees and other holiday items. Kevin Warhurst, a manager at the center, said the event will go on simultaneously at their Falls Church, Fair Oaks and Gainesville stores. “It’s been well received and attended,” Warhurst said Monday. “”It’s kind of a fun night. “ The Falls Church store is stocked with bows, ribbons and other must have decorations for the holiday season. The Santa Winter Wonderland opens Nov. 24.
With the holiday season on the way, Santa Claus is making plans to visit the Merrifield Garden Center on Gallows Road in Falls Church. Between Nov. 24 and Dec. 23, children visiting the center can write letters to Santa with a gift list, take pictures with him and ask questions during a press conference the man from the North Pole. There will also be a box for families in the Winter Wonderland to donate toys to less fortunate children. The toys will be gathered and taken to the Catholic Diocese of Arlington.
