Falls Church Farmer’s Market director says crops that came in earlier last year could be later this year because of the ongoing cold weather.
If you’re awaiting Pizzeria Orso to break out their spring menu, you may have to hold off a bit. With cold weather affecting some crops, Executive Chef Will Artley said a few of his local vendors have already pushed back some of their delivery dates of produce. At least through the second week of April, customers will have to deal with the current menu, Artley said. “I wanted the spring menu out next week but it will be two weeks out now,” Artley said. “When spring comes, you want to see things like peas and anything bright and green. Bob Stifel works from his kitchen doing something he has always loved.
Bob Stifel loves getting in the kitchen and preparing a good meal for people and he’s done that for more than half of his 55 years of life. The Falls Church resident also knows there are people out there who want to be able to prepare a meal for their family and friends but may be confounded by some recipes. It’s that group of people that led Stifel to start Bob’s Best Quality. Local cookie company hoping to expand to storefront in the near future.
If you’ve been to The Local Market, you’ve seen the small brown sacks with tasty, homemade, soft cookies inside. For about two years, Pancha Dulce Artisan Cookies have found their way into Falls Church homes and more in the surrounding area. Operated by the husband and wife duo, Patrick and Priscilla Giannelli, the company produces between 400 and 500 bags of cookies a week. “Pat does most of the baking,” Priscilla said. “Pat’s perfected a lot of the baking.” Built from Priscilla’s craving for good alfajors, a Peruvian cookie. She couldn’t find a good one locally so she started baking her own and the company expanded to 13 types of cookies from that.
