Immigration officials put a detainer on the suspect linked to Vanessa Pham's murder
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Friday the man accused of murdering 19-year-old Vanessa Pham is in violation of immigration law. ICE placed a detainer on suspect Julio Miguel Blanco-Garcia, 27, on Thursday, the day he was arrested and charged with Pham's 2010 murder. Fairfax County Police told media Thursday night the arrest in Vanessa Pham's murder was a result of new forensic evidence discovered within the last week. Acting Chief Lt. Col. James A. Morris was unwilling to talk about nature of the evidence or what may have happened to Pham on the day she was killed, saying that the case is still too new to comment. A total reward of $21,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.
It’s been two years since Vanessa Pham was found dead inside a two-door car near Arlington Boulevard and Williams Drive on June 27, 2010. The 19 year old had injuries to her upper body inconsistent with the car crash she was in. An investigation revealed that Pham, of Falls Church, was not injured or in distress when she was at a business in the Fairfax Plaza Shopping Center around 3 p.m. Police found Pham dead at 3:34 p.m. Crime Solvers are offering a $1,000 reward and in addition, a private cash reward of $20,000 is also being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Woman flees from car after unknown man climbs into passenger seat.
Police are investigating a strange incident at Fairfax Plaza Shopping Center that sounds all-too similar to an unsolved murder case from June 2010. A 33-year-old woman left Unique Thrift at around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 27. She walked to her car in the shopping center parking lot. As she unlocked the car and got in, an unknown man jumped into the passenger's seat. The victim screamed and fled, but returned shortly after to retrieve her purse from the driver's seat. When she got back to her car the suspect was standing beside the driver's side. He then walked off towards Unique Thrift, according to Fairfax County Police. Nothing was taken. Nobody was injured. Friends remember Vanessa Pham six months to the day after tragedy.
About six months ago, Vanessa Pham and her friends – former classmates at James Madison High School – spent a joyful day at the Vienna Town Green, a place they went often to hang out. They picnicked on the park's stage and took fun photos of each other. "It was a beautiful day with a beautiful girl," recalled friend Sarah Cole. Just days later, that beautiful girl lost her life in a tragic, unsolved murder. Pham, 19 and home from her first year at the Savannah College of Art and Design, was found, stabbed, in her car in a ditch off Route 50 near Williams Drive. Her death continues to be investigated.
