Cava Mezze Grill Opens in Mosaic District Today

Store offers Greek-inspired dishes with a new age twist.

Cava Mezze Grill will open its Merrifield location in the Mosaic District (2905 District Ave.) Wednesday with a free pita, bowl, salad or minis and a fountain drink from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. and again between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Co-owner Brett Schulman said he and his business partners liked the explosion of local restaurants that are coming to the Mosaic District and they wanted to be a part of it. After founding the full-service Cava restaurant in Rockville, Md. in 2006, Schulman said the group decided to diversify the business and sell their dips and spreads in grocery stores and open smaller, fast service restaurants. “The grill idea was to take some of what we do in the restaurant and what we sell in the stores and put them into a …

Development in Tysons, Mosaic District Drive Local Economy

In annual State of the County address, Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova warns sequestration could impact revenues, is making business owners delay decisions.

Revitalization and development will drive Fairfax County's economy in 2013 and beyond, Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova said in her annual state of the county address Wednesday. Talking to members of the media Wednesday morning, Bulova said massive development projects in Tysons, the Falls Church-Merrifield area and Springfield will create "bright days and years ahead" — but the threat of sequestration was also making business owners hesitant to commit to a relocation or expansion in the county.  “Fairfax County’s future is in development,” Bulova said in her statement. “Aging commercial centers near mass transit, like Tysons, present especially valuable opportunities for attractive, transit-oriented mixed-use revitalization.” …

Am I the only one that questions why more buildings when the roads can't handle the traffic as it is? I also question the logic that Metro trains are the solution to traffic. If Metro raises its prices, there will be a drop in riders. No one wants to be a prisoner to a transportation system. Just ask anyone that has to use the Greenway. The metro trains don't go everywhere and it seems only the …   more ›

Credit where credits due... Drove by the area early last week where the reported phone cables were damaged, sure enough Verizon crew was working on repairs and i'm told had been since the problem was reported that Friday. From what I saw where they were working on Gallows Rd., very close to Lee Hgwy intersection (near an existing Verizon facility as well), it was difficult and tight conditions in…   more ›
