New Police Car a Big Hit in Falls Church

City uncertain when more new patrols cars will join the aging fleet. See video of the new patrol car here.

The eyes of bystanders and motorists alike followed the new Falls Church City Police Department’s newest patrol car as Officer Matt Cay drove it through town Thursday. Unlike the aging patrol cars in the fleet, the new black and white Ford Interceptor uses Ecoflex fuel and can reach speeds of up to 160 mph in a pursuit. The car is also equipped with all-wheel drive for inclement weather and new radar and video capabilities. It’s the only new cruiser for now but more could be on the way. “Our patrol cars are in use 24/7 and replacement is critical to operations,” said Susan Finarelli, spokeswoman for the city. “The cost of this type of vehicle with the new paint theme is in line with the other model cars the department currently employs.” …

New Police Car Joins Falls Church Fleet

The department’s new 2013 Ford Police Inceptor will be the only car in the city’s fleet with a traditional black and white paint job.

If you get pulled over by a police car that doesn't look like other Falls Church police vehicles, don't be confused—it's the newest cruiser to the Falls Church Police Department's fleet. The department will unveil its 2013 Ford Police Interceptor sedan at the Falls Church Farmer’s Market Saturday outside City Hall. Susan Finarelli, spokeswoman for the city, said the new cruiser is the only new one so far and it cost about $38,000 which also included the vehicle’s equipment. On average, patrol cars have a life span of four years, Finarelli said. “We’re not going to paint the old ones to look like the new cruiser,” Finarelli said.
