Falls Church Woman Ordered to Delete Parts of Yelp! Review

While a defamation suit is settled, Jane Perez has been barred from accusing contractor Christopher Dietz of stealing jewelry and causing more than $15,000 in damages to her home.

A Falls Church woman was ordered yesterday to delete parts of her post on the customer-driven website Yelp.com while a court weighs a $1 million defamation suit against the woman.

Jane Perez, according to the New York Post, wrote angry reviews on Yelp and Angie’s List alleging contractor Christopher Dietz stole jewelry from her home and caused about $15,000 in damages to her home.

Dietz filed the suit against Perez in October, according to the newspaper.

Fairfax County Judge Thomas Fortkort barred Perez from accusing Dietz of stealing in her posts because police reportedly investigated the allegations and did not to bring charges against Dietz.

This is not the first time people have been involved in defamation suits related to reviews on customer review-based websites. In 2009, for example, a patient negatively reviewed his chiropractor in California. The doctor sued, CNet reported. Other cases also popped up in 2011 across the country.
