Falls Church School to Reopen After Sewage Leak

School had been closed for two days.

For two days this week Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School sat vacant as crews worked feverishly to repair a sewage leak.

But the school will reopen Friday now that the sewage leak and electrical system has been repaired.

“We are home tomorrow, fully operational,” Principal Seidah Ashshaheed said in a Falls Church City Public Schools release.

Officials detected the sinkhole and outside sewage leak around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and the school had been closed since.

The school suffered a similar sewage leak in October, which also closed school for one day.

“I can’t share enough how much I appreciate all of the hard work that has taken place these past two days,” Superintendent Toni Jones said according to an FCCPS release. “And a big thank you goes out to the Falls Church City staff for their assistance in coordinating the Falls Church Community Center for day care, loaning us equipment for repairs and being so responsive and willing to help us. And of course to our families and staff, thank you so much for all of your flexibility and patience this week.”
